The Ins and Outs of Dyslexia and Dyslexia Assessment: What exactly is Dyslexia and what exactly am I supposed to be testing? – Part 1 (Virtual)

This presentation will provide information on the science of reading, structured literacy, what dyslexia is, phonology and orthography, myths and characteristics, evaluation and identification, essential components of a dyslexia assessment, examples of assessments for each component, explaining results to parents, and when reading problems are not dyslexia.
By the end of this 2-Part series, the following objectives should be met:
– To understand what is meant by the term Science of Reading.
– To understand what Structured Literacy is and why it is important.
– To understand what dyslexia is and is not.
– To understand the role of Phonological Awareness and Orthographic – – Processing within the continuum of reading.
– To understand how to assess and identify dyslexia.
– To understand when reading difficulties are not dyslexia.
– To feel more comfortable presenting results to parents.
