My wife Diann wanted to get in on the fun so I built her the glider. The glider is scratch built and it has a 60" span and weighs about 1.5lbs.. The engine has been aggravating. I found an ad for the OK Cub .049. I thought that would be cool because the first engine my Dad bought for me 50+ years ago was an OK Cub. It is just junk It is almost impossible to start and doesn't have enough power to fly any thing. So I had this old Cox from when I bought Mike a Cox Fokker biplane 25 years ago. It didn't have a fuel tank so I made one with fonoliac and epoxy. I thought it was really cool. Well it is extremely hard to start and very tempermental but we did fly it. It ran about 4 minutes and the glider would climb to about 1000ft. It made about 6 flights with that engine. Then I was at the Hobby shop in Coffeyville and I asked if he might have an .049. He gave me an old Cox PT19. I put that engine in and it starts first try and has full power. It only runs about 2.5 minutes so the glider only gets to about 500 ft. but that is enough. Maybe when summer gets here it will thermal. The glider is extremely stable and glides real slow. It is just the thing to build confidence in an extreme newbie.
