The Homemade Crutch Plane by Michael
Was scratch built. No specs available yet.
Here are a few pics of my work area. Check them out...
Ace R/C Grasshopper
Built from kit 9/02. Crashed at least 6 times on takeoff. This is not a very good plane at all unless you want a park flyer and have micro servos. This kit comes with nylon control rods, but they are virtually unusable. I suggest throwing them away right out of the box and using something else. I flew this with a .15 on it and a standard 3 channel system. Too heavy for the wing size...
Specs: 43.5" Wing Span:, Wing Area: 214 sq.in., Weight: 20oz. Engine Size: .049-.07, Required Radio: 2-3 Channel
Update: 10/03 - This plane is currently retired. It may be brought out of retirement at a later date, but I currently do not have the micro servos needed to be able to fly this thing...
House of Balsa P-51D 1/12 stand off scale
Built from kit 9/02 - ?... Not yet completed. Needing micro servos to complete this plane.
Specs: Wing span 36 in., Wing area 216 sq. in., Wt. with radio 22-28 oz., Wing loading 14.6-18.6 oz./sq. ft.,
Fuselage length 28.5 in., 2-4 channel radio reqd., Engine TD.051 - .10
Update: 10/03 - I finally got the micro servos needed to complete this plane. I am planning on finishing it within the next few months.
My first big project plane.
SIG Kadet LT-40
Built from kit 10/02 - 11/02.
Wingspan: 70" Wing area: 900 sq in. Weight: 5.5 - 6 lbs. Wing Loading: 14-15 oz/sq ft Length: 56"
.30-.40 2-stroke or .40-.50 4-stroke engine, 4 Channel Radio
Update: 10/03 - After at least a hundred flights, I finally had a mishap. I changed out radios one night, and the next day went out to fly it. The radio that I put in it for some reason had a bad channel. I checked it all out before the first take off and range checked it, but apparently that didnt make any difference. It started rolling right after take off and almost did a snap roll right into the ground. I had absolutely no control over the aelerons. It definitely didnt go the plane any good, but it was repairable. I rebuilt the entire right half of the wing and the nose of the plane. I think I did a pretty good job, because you cant tell that it was crashed, and, it still flies as good as it always did.... Hopefully, I wont have anymore of these little mishaps again... :)
My new plane I built this winter.
Valley Flyer
Scratch built 1/03-2/03, from RCM Magazine plans in the February 1971 issue. Built as low wing with tricycle gear instead.
46-1/2" span, 480 sq. in., .35-.50, 4 ch., built-up balsa and plywood.
Issue: RCM 2-71
Finally had it's maiden voyage the last weekend in February. I was having transmitter issues that I didn't know about till after I took off. I managed to save it and land it in the bean field next to where I fly from. After diagnosing the transmitter problem, I took it up for another flight without incident. The OS FP.35 that is the power plant is more then enough power for this plane. It will almost climb completely vertical with this engine on it. I had to turn down the throw on the aeilerons, due to the fact that the plane had such a fast roll rate. Overall, this plane flies nicely and glides very well. It is very hard to stall as well... Has flown 5 flights now without too much of an incident!
Update: 10/03 - This plane is still flying. I have had very little problems with this plane and has well over 40 flights on it now. The only downfall is the short landing gear and the little wheels. It is very hard to take off from grass....
My future project...
PITTS S2A
Will be scratch built. (10/03 still not started on yet)
41" span (T), 39" span (B), 580 sq. in., .29-.45, 4 ch., built-up balsa and plywood.
Issue: RCM 12-78
Update: 10/03 - This plane will be built, but not right away. I have too many other projects currently going on. Will keep you all posted!
My newest plane I just got on Monday 3/17/03...
Gee Bee Little Dreamer Biplane
Already built and ready to fly.
Update: 10/03 - This plane is my favorite at the moment. I have put over 50 flights on this plane and still love to fly it. It flies great and is fast and fun to fly. It will do almost any aerobatics that you want and it still will fly slow when you want it to.
More to come.....
Michael recently bought a boat load of R/C stuff off Ebay. Check out the link to see all the stuff he got.
